Uva Province stun Central

Uva Province stunned Central Province with a shock five wicket win
their Prima Intern-Provincial Under 15 Cricket Tournament match
organised by the Sri Lanka Cricket and played at Police Grounds, Kandy
yesterday.
Uva Provincial win is more creditable as they came over to Kandy and
beat the Central Province which speaks volumes about their dedication
and application to the game despite the lack of basic amenities and
exposure to the game.
Uva Province team was drawn from lower Division Schools from little
known Moneragala, Badulla and Ampara districts and some of them from the
Veddah land. The Central Province team was selected from Mostly Division
one schools from the district of Kandy, Kegalle and Nuwara Eliya.
Uva’s easy win over Central Province is the Collective result of
their coaches Priyantha Weragoda (Badulla), Kasun Maduranga (Moneragala)
and Wasantha Kumara (Ampara) under the overall Super vision of SLC’s Uva
Provincial coach Chaminda Kodikara.
Central Province batting first made 207 all out in the last over.
Lalith Premalillehe 43 and Shavinda Amerasinghe 36 were the Chief
Contributers. Two off spinners Miyuru Salinda 4 for 24 and Selvakanth 4
for 45 wrought havec.
Uva Province Chasing a victory target of 208 were off to a good start
with the openers Hansaka Liyanarachchi 20 and Ravindu Bandara 66 (10
fours) putting 74 before being separated.
Another good partnership of 80 for the fourth wicket between Miyuru
Salinda 21 and Selvakanth Gobinath 46 not out (5 fours, 1 six) drove the
last Nail in Central Province’s coffin.
This match was a personal success for Selvakanth Gobinath who took 4
for 45 and also 46 not out in a match winning knock.
