Three persons transporting a stock of 2,000 kilograms of refuse tea in a lorry were arrested by officers of the Central Province Special Crime Operations Unit at Dawulugala along with the lorry and the goods on Thursday. Police said the refuse tea filled into 52 gunny bags were covered with a tarpauline sheet to avoid detection.

Investigations revealed that the suspects were using a forged permit to transport the refuse tea for blending with quality tea for export. Further investigations are continuing by a team comprising sergeants D Nilame, T Ratnayake and S Ariyaratne.
