Cop and culprit fall into well

An incident where a suspect in a kasippu case jumped into a well to escape Police arrest and a sergeant following him in hot pursuit accidentally fell into the same well atop him, is reported from Urapiruwewa on the Medawachchiya Horowpothane road.

The incident had occurred on December 10 night during a raid conducted by Medawachchiya Police on an illicit distillery in the area following a tip off.

Subsequently, the other members of the Police party had rescued their colleague and the suspect who was later arrested.

Police also arrested several other suspects along with 2150 drams of goda and several distilling equipment.

The suspect was produced before Medawachchiya Magistrate Chandima Edirimanne and fined Rs 75,000.
