LMD UNVEILS SRI LANKA’S FORTUNE 500
JKH, Bukit Darah and Hayleys take top billing in
2011/12:
Media Services, the publisher of pioneering business magazine LMD,
unveils the who’s who of corporate Sri Lanka in its all-new LMD 100,
which is an extended version of The LMD 50 annual edition. The special
issue will hit bookstores and newsstands on Monday 17 December.
The LMD 100’s Leaderboard, or the ‘Top 10’, this year comprises two
highly diversified conglomerates, John Keells Holdings (JKH) in the top
spot and Hayleys in third place, and the giants of the local telecom
industry (SLT and Dialog Axiata, who occupy the No. 6 and 8 positions).
They are joined by the two leading private sector banks ComBank and HNB
(placed ninth and 10th respectively), together with Bukit Darah (2),
Lanka IOC (4), CT Holdings (5) and Cargills (7)
LMD’s special edition the 19th since the rankings were first
published in 2004 notes: “Amongst the top 50 listed corporations, only
five reported lower incomes during the financial year that’s one less
than in 2010/11. And for a second year running, there were no
loss-makers, while 30 companies reported profit growth in the double
digits or greater. Eight entities enjoyed post-tax profits in excess of
five billion rupees, and as many as 47 LMD 100 companies recorded annual
revenues in excess of 10 billion rupees.”
“Having described 2010/11 as the year in which ‘summer will fall,’ we
went into 2011/12 with a prediction that the forward journey would be
challenged by the outlook for the world economy, which at the time was
bleak at best. But as we’ve seen time and again, corporate Sri Lanka
holds true its promise of forging ahead even when times are tough – the
100 leading listed companies in the country have amply displayed that
the tough get going in such times,” it adds.
An annual compilation along the lines of the Fortune 500, the LMD 100
is compiled by Media Services, which also publishes LMD, Living, Living
Colombo Guide, Brands Annual and Most Respected, and presents the
twice-monthly TV and online business programme Benchmark. |
