Carlton Cup basketball progresses for second week

Some exciting basketball games were on showcase during the past week
in the Carlton Cup 2012 Basketball Championship worked off at two venues
in Colombo. The 2012 version of Carlton Cup has been a more competitive
event than the three previous versions and it has just completed its
first week. The fourth version of Carlton Cup 2012 commenced at the
Police Park courts on October 19.
The first game of Carlton Cup 2012 between the Sri Lanka Police
Basketball team and the Wattala Basketball team set the tone with a
thrilling match the Policemen were beaten by an underdog Wattala team
62-59.
The Wattala team were more determined and they produced some magical
moments in order to edge over the Policemen.
The second day's first B division match between Kurunegala
Basketball club and Dhamso Basketball club was won by Kurunegala team
87-80. The Buffalos B team went down to Batticaloa team with a huge
margin, 74 29 which is biggest lead to date in the Carlton Cup
history.
On the third day, the Royalist registered a comfortable win over
Michealites 68-49 in the B division.One of the favourites in the A
division, Otter Aquatic Club was lucky to escape from a shocking defeat
in the hands of new comers Peterites who missed the victory in a
whisker. Otters won the match 58 57.
Colombo International Schools beat Army B team 49-42 on the fourth
day's B division match. The reigning A division champions Colombo
Basketball Club tamed Old Bens 72-61 on the same day.
The fifth day of the tournament saw two all B division matches. The
Buffalos A team beat the Royalists 56 50 while Wennappuwa Knights
defeated Stallions 63-45. On the 06th day Colombo Basketball Club out
played last year's semi finalists Navy 83-69 and in the other B
division match played at the Amal International Basketball courts
between Vazians and Maroons where the vazians emerged winners with a
comfortable margin 65 39.
Rain hindered seventh day saw thrilling two matches on card. Moratuwa
Basketball team trounced Greens BC 65- 48 in the B division while the
Avant Garde basketball team posted their first victory in the Carlton
Cup 2012 A division by beating Wattala basketball team 75-70. |
