Sappers 4 X 4 Gympo, the off road challenge conducted by the Sri
Lanka Army Corps of Engineers in association with the Four Wheel Drive
Club ( FWDC) will be worked off for the second successive year on
October 20 at Sri Lanka School of Military Engineering ( SLSME) track in
Thunkama, Embilitpitya.
The event consist of five categories, the Standard vehicles, Standard
Modified, Under 3000 cc, Over 3000 cc and Extreme Class. 14 top Sri
Lankan teams and four Malaysian teams , including Bakri Bin Aesari ,
John Yap, Tian Guo Shii Mervyn Lim, Chin King Seong, Wong Kah Kin and
Russel Brinsmead (Australia ) will battle it out the most rugged and
groovy trails including the water obstacle.

The SLSME made track has been constructed with obstacles with the
maximum use of natural land unevenness and landscape emulated with
constructed obstacles that will test drivers and navigators on their
extreme adaptive skills.
The teams will have to drive through mud pits, water crossing, across
a log bridge, rocks, V grooved trails. The parallel two track allow two
vehicles to compete simultaneously.
The most uneven articulated obstacles along the track will test
drivers ability to cope with the forces of gravity. The venue is
accessible for more than 15000 spectators where they can view the entire
track from any location which will give them the best of a 4 x 4
challenge. Constructed in compliance with international standards , the
track gives the local competitors a chance to train for foreign events.
The Corporate Box areas in the venue has been designated to
organizations who are interested to offer a quality recreation time for
their employees to escape the work stress. |
