The 29th Li Ning MBA Individual Open Badminton Championships 2012 ,
organized by the Mercantile Badminton Association will be held from
October 24 to 28 at St Thomas’s Indoor Stadium, Mount Lavinia.
The tourney is sponsored by Li NING for the first time who has been
channeled through its local distributor in Sri Lanka, D Samson
Industries Group.
This year the tournament has attracted 350 players from 49 companies
for 256 matches in 13 events where nine private firms are competing for
the first time. This was revealed at a press conference held at Galle
Face Hotel on Wednesday.
Play will commence at 4pm on all working days and from 9am onwards on
Saturday and 10am on Sunday. All semi finals will be played on October
27 while the finals and play offs will be on the final day.
The London 2012 Olympic participants, Niluka Karunaratne and Thilini
Jayasinghe are among the top class players in the tourney. The
championships will consist of men’s and women’s singles and doubles,
mixed doubles, men’s and women’s veterans singles and doubles, masters’
singles and doubles and men’s and women’s plate singles. Challenge
trophies, replicas and certificates and merchandise from the sponsors
will be awarded to winners including runners up and third and fourth
places. |
