Haj prayers organised by the Memon Association of Sri Lanka will be
held on October 27 at 8am at the Galle Face Green.
Navarathri festival
The Navarathri festival will be celebrated by the Hindu Religious and
Cultural Affairs Department on Sunday.
Media seminar
Identifying, understanding media, a two week seminar organised by
Desathiya for schoolchildren in the Kandy district will be held today
morning at the E L Senanayake Memorial Library Auditorium, Kandy.
Taste the media is the seminar’s theme. Prof Ariyaratne Ethugala and
Dr Praneeth Abayasundara will deliver lectures. The Government
Information Department plans similar seminars throughout the country.
English Day
The English Day of President’s College, Kotte will be held at the
college auditorium today at 2 pm. Senior lecturer of the Teachers’
Training College, Maharagama, Pushpa Kariyawasam will be the chief
guest.
Training programme
The three day Human Rights training programme for pre - service batch
of prison officers conducted by the Centre for the Study of Human Rights
of the University of Colombo will be held until tomorrow at the
Galkiriyagama Training Centre, Department of Prisons.
IESL annual sessions
The 106th annual sessions of the Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka
will be inaugurated by Attorney General Palitha Fernando, PC today at
8am at the Sirimavo Bandaranaike Memorial Exhibition Centre. National
Water Supply and Drainage Board chairman Karunasena Hettiarachchi will
be the Guest of Honour.
AGM
The Sri Lanka Press Association Annual General Meeting will be held
tomorrow at 9am at the Mahaweli Centre, Colombo.
Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Minister Dr Rajitha Senarathne and
Resettlement Deputy Minister M Muralidharan will be the Chief Guests.
National rally
The annual National Rally of the Lakrivi Children’s Movement will be
held on October 27 at the Open Theatre, Vihara Maha Devi Park, Colombo.
The rally will commence at 8am with Most Rev Dr Norbert Andradhi OMI,
Bishop of Anuradhapura. Colombo Mayor H M Muzzamil will be the Chief
Guest.
Sesquicentennial celebrations
Sesquicentennial celebrations of Holy Family Convent, Jaffna
(1862-2012) organised by the Past Pupils Association of the Jaffna Holy
Family Convent Colombo Branch will be held on Sunday at 7pm at Hotel
Saphire, Galle Road, Colombo 6.
Muslim Aid Day
Muslim Aid Day celebrations organised by Muslim Aid Sri Lanka
commenced yesterday with a week long list of events.
Today Muslim Aid Sri Lanka will be at Hameed Al Hussainie School,
Colombo 12. On October 20 and 21 Muslim Aid Sri Lanka will be at
Horowpothana and Muttur.
Reading Club meets
The Readers are Leaders Reading Club will meet every fourth Saturday
of the month at 2.30pm. Sanjay de Silva will read from McDougal Little
Literature for children between six and 10 years on October 27 at 2.30pm
at the American Centre while Emily Whitaker will read from How to Train
Your Dragon for children between 11 and 15 years. The American Centre
will also screen the film adaptation of How to Train Your Dragon at
3.30pm.
Kalai Vizha
The Navarathiri Kalai Vizha will be held on October 21 at 4.30 pm at
the Hindu Cultural Centre, Kandy, under the chairmanship of D
Sivasubramaniam of the Central Province Hindu Association, Kandy.
Rare treat with rare purpose
Victor Rathnayaka, Sunil Edirisinghe and Nirosha Virajini will offer
a rare treat of music of yesteryear at the Nelum Pokuna Mahinda
Rajapaksa Theatre on October 21.
The proceeds of the event will be utilized to provide scholarships
for children of War Heroes and provide computers and library books for
Denagama East Government School in the Southern Province. |
