Over 50 percent work on Kalladi bridge completed

Over 50 percent of the construction work of the Kalladi bridge in
Batticaloa has been completed, Ports and Highways Deputy Minister
Nirmala Kothalawela said.
The Deputy Minister was speaking while on an inspection tour of the
construction site at the Kalladi bridge in Batticaloa recently. The new
Kalladi Bridge, connecting the North and South of Batticaloa on the
Colombo - Ratnapura - Pelmadulla to Batticaloa via the Beragala Road, is
being constructed to replace the old bridge that was built by the
British 70 years ago.
“The total length of the bridge is 288 metres in length while the
width is 15 metres. This two lane bridge will have two 1.5 metre long
bicycle and pedestrian lanes. The commencement of the construction of
this long awaited project will provide a number of benefits to the
people,” he said.
The minister also emphasized the needs of completing the project on
scheduled at the discussion held with contractors of the bridge. |
