Library renovated
A library at the Naranthanai Pradeshiya Sabha Sub Office, which
caters to the reading needs of the people of Narathanai Sinnamadu and
Puliyankoodal is being renovated at a cost of Rs 7,500,000.
St Patrick's College wins drama competition
St Patrick's College, Jaffna, won the first prize at the Colombo
Tamil Sangam drama competition. David Charles Danjakan was adjudged the
best actor and Vimalrajah Varuraj, as the best co-actor.
House gutted
A thatched house has been gutted by fire at Valipun in
Puthukudiiruppu. The chief occupant of the house had lit an oil lamp at
the shrine room and gone to a nearby house to view the television. On
her return, she found, her house has been reduced to ashes. The Army and
the Mullaithivu Coconut Development Society provided a house to the
victims to live in temporarily.
New principals to schools
Fifteen permanent principals were appointed to schools in the
Vadamaradchy Education Zone by the Education Ministry. The vacancies for
permanent principals to Pelykandy Tamil Mixed School, Kambarnalai Maha
Vidyalaya, Nagarkovil Maha Vidyalaya and Korudavil Hindu Tamil School
have been filled. The balance 11 principals will be appointed soon to
schools managed by acting principals, said Zonal Education Director
Nandakumar.
Connecting villages
Vaddakachchi, a village about five miles from Kilinochchi, has been
given land telephone connection from Kilinochchi. Pillars for telephone
connection have been posted and residents will be given connection soon,
Kilinochchi Telecommunication office sources said.
