‘Education should create complete individuals’ - Indian educationist

Education should create complete individuals with human qualities rather than produce mechanical robots said renowned Indian Educationalist Dr. Vineeta Kamran. She was addressing a seminar attended by school Principals of the Sabaragamuwa Province held at the Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council auditorium.

The workshop was organized by the Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council to upgrade managerial skills of schools Principals. Dr. Kamran was among two leading Indian educationists who were present at the seminar as resource persons, on the invitation of Chief Minister Maheepala Herath.

Dr. Kamran who is the Principal of the CMS University Institute in Lucknow in India, said, “Educationalists should prepare children not only to face examinations but also to face life successfully. Although a large number of scientists, mathematicians and doctors of excellence have been born throughout the world during the past several decades , we should not forget that cruelty too has been widespread during this period.”

She said, “Incidents similar to those of 9/11 occurred because we have produced robots and not complete human beings with values. You Principals are social engineers who are involved in creating the future society. You are also architects who build the massive mansion referred to as the ‘World Future’. The future of any country irrespective of its size, depends on Principals and teachers.

A school does not mean only a building with four walls. What is more important is the patient and tolerant Principal and the teaching staff. The fact that children are the elements of the entire education exercise, should never be forgotten.”

Dr. Kamran expressed the firm view that children tended to imitate their teachers much more than their parents.

Therefore the dress as well as the personality of the teacher, should suit that role perfectly.

Referring to President Mahinda Rajapaksa, Dr. Kamran said that the President is a complete and veteran statesmen. The President has been capable of winning the attention of the whole world.

Further, the President has been able to win over the world, because he has a clear vision with regard to education and an application in keeping with it.

Dr. Kamran said that she has visited Sri Lanka five times previously and that she had not seen a region more attractive and pleasant than Sabaragamuwa and that a visit to Sri Lanka, is incomplete without a visit to Sabaragamuwa.

She said that she also observed a systematic office-system in the Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council which rendered a sterling service to the people in the province.

Chief Minister Maheepala Herath, Provincial Ministers Bhanu Munipriya, Athula Kumara Rahubadda and Ranjith Bandara and Chief Secretary Herath P. Kularatne were also present on the occasion.
