‘Public servants should help implement govt policies’

Public servants may have their own political affiliation, but they have to contribute to implement the policies and programmes of the government, Environment Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa said.

Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa

He was addressing graduate trainees appointed to the Pannala Divisional Secretary's Division at a meeting held at the Pannala Community Hall. The minister said if the UNP was in power, no one would be recruited to the public services, as its policy was shrinking the public service.

He said graduate trainees will be directed to departments after the training.

The minister said public servants should attend to the needs of the people. If it is difficult to find a solution to a problem, it should be directed to the higher authority, he said. The minister said politicians and public servants are duty bound to serve the public efficiently for their satisfaction. “We studied under free education, the people paid for our education. We all are paid by the people, they are our masters.”
