Written submissions set for Oct 22

A three judge Bench of the Supreme Court yesterday directed written submissions to be filed on October 22 in the petition filed by Samurdhi Officers’ Association secretary Chamara Kaluge against the Divi Neguma Bill taken up for hearing. The next call dates were fixed for October 22 and 23.

The Bench comprised Chief Justice Dr Shirani Bandaranayake,

Justice K Sri Pavan and Justice Gamini Ameratunge.

The petition inter alia alleges that the process of transfer of Samurdhi funds to the Divi Neguma Development Funds along with the deductions for the Employees Provident Fund is not transparent. Solicitor General Y Wijetileke appeared for the Attorney General.

Attorney at law Tiran Alles appeared for the Center for Policy Alternatives.

Attorney at law M A Sumanthiran appeared for the petitioner.
