Javed and Deelaka steer Cambrians to first innings win

St. Thomas College bounced backed and fought courageously to play for a draw in their inter-school Under-19 cricket match against Prince of Wales' worked off at Moratuwa.

Cambrians were sitting pretty at the end of day one with a handsome lead of 151 runs in the rain interrupted game and their hopes for an outright victory was shattered when Javed Bongso and Deelaka Herath batted almost throughout the day with patience to save their alma-mater and at stumps they were 196 for 2.

Bongso scored a chanceless unbeaten, gallant knock of 103 runs which included eight hits to the rope and one over occupying the crease for 238 minutes and facing 194 balls and had a third wicket uninterrupted partnership with Deelaka Herath of 142 runs who scored an unbeaten 50 runs occupying the crease for 204 minutes with six fours.

Cambrians declared at their overnight score of 269 for 8 on day two and has to be satisfied with a first innings win.
