Father dies after assault by son

The Dehiatththakandiya Police have commenced a search operation to arrest a suspect in connection with the death of a 67 year old person who had been assaulted to death. Police reported that the suspect who is the eldest son of the victim had committed the crime after a quarrel with his parents. Police also found that the suspect had been under the influence of liquor at the time of the scene. K M Punchirala of Dolakanda,Dehiaththakandiya died in the incident.

Youth found hanging in boarding

The body of an 18 year old man was found handing in his room at his boarding house in Dikpitigoda, Kelaniya on Saturday, by the Peliyagoda Police.

The deceased from Neluwa who had rented a room at the location while working as a security guard in a private firm. The magisterial investigation and the post mortem was held yesterday. Peliyagoda Police are investigating.

Man’s body found on precipice

Bagawanthalawa Police have commenced an investigation into the suspicious death of a 55 year old man whose body was found on a precipice near a school in Bagawanthalawa on the same day. The deceased , Ramasami Kandasami , a former labourer was reported to have had left home to buy some goods from a nearby boutique.

Private bus gutted

Acting on a complaint lodged by a driver, the Dompe police have commenced an investigation into an incident where a private bus was gutted by fire,while it had been parked near a house in Keragala at around 3 am on Saturday. Investigations revealed that the bus which transported garment factory workers was parked after its routine trip near the drivers home when it suddenly caught fire. Dompe Police are continuing investigations to ascertain the cause of the fire.

Treasure hunters remanded

The Polonnaruwa magistrate remanded three suspects who had been arrested by Polonnaruwa Aritefacts and Antiquities Protection Unit while hunting for treasure in a private land in the Galvihara Sacred Area at Nissanka Mallapura. The suspects, including the owner of the land were remanded till October 14.

Remanded for possessing heroin

Ratnapura Police on Saturday arrested a suspect at Church Road, Ratnapura with 4.74 grammes of heroin hidden in his person. The 45 year old suspect, a resident of Mihindugama was remanded until October 24 by the Ratnapura Magistrate.
