Five arrested

Damana Police arrested five suspects and took into custody a three wheeler in their possession in connection with an incident where a person was allegedly threatened and assaulted before hijacking his three wheeler in Helagampura on Saturday. Investigations revealed a leasing company was behind the assault where it hired the suspects to seize the vehicle following the failure of the victim to pay the overdue rental for the vehicle.

The suspects had come to the victim’s home in a double cab and threatened the three wheeler owner with knives and assaulted him before taking the vehicle by force. The suspects, all residents of Ampara, were produced before the Ampara magistrate yesterday.

Investigations are continuing.
