Second stage of Indian housing project launched
“Mahatma Gandhi was an eminent patriotic political leader who spoke
of non-violence vitalizing the independence movement in India,” Director
General of Sri Lanka Red Cross Society, Tissa Abeywickrama said. It was
a real opportunity to recall such a noble person at the launch of 2nd
phase of Indian housing programme in Sri Lanka, he said.
The SLRCS Director General was speaking at the 143rd birth
anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, commemorated with the launch of the
second phase of the 43,000 Indian housing project on October 2. He said
the initiative to assist 43,000 families to rebuild their houses was a
mega project agreed between the governments of Sri Lanka and India,
further strengthening India-Sri Lanka friendship.
The Sri Lanka Red Cross is happy to be a partner in implementing this
project, Abeywickrama said. Economic Development Minister Basil
Rajapaksa and Indian High Commissioner Ashok K Kantha were the chief
guests. |
