Asiabike Industrial strikes ‘Gold’ again

Asiabike continues its winning streak of export awards by winning its second Gold Award at the National Chamber of Exporters (NCE) awards ceremony held at the Hilton Colombo recently.

Asiabike Industrial Ltd was incorporated in 1994 as a BOI venture and is the first company in Sri Lanka to export bicycles to foreign markets, such as the United Kingdom, Italy, France, Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, Finland and Russia to name a few. This company is the pioneer in the manufacture of mountain and all terrain bicycles in Sri Lanka. With a state of the art production facility and a fully trained and skilled workforce, a wide range of models including MTB's, all terrain bikes, city bicycles, fixed wheel bikes (also known as fixies) and, hybrids are manufactured to the highest standards which conforms to European Norms.

This family owned company with a workforce of 350 employees has consistently won awards for exports since 2005. This is the only bicycle company in Sri Lanka that has won the most number of export awards until date. This is the second time Asiabike has bagged a Gold award, won one in 2007, and most recently in 2011. Furthermore, in 2008, Asiabike won a Gold Award under the highly prestigious Presidential Awards schemes as well.

These award benchmarks the company as an innovative leader in the bicycle industry in Sri Lanka. Although facing heavy competition form many overseas producers of bicycles from countries such as Bangladesh, Cambodia, Indonesia, Vietnam and Thailand in which these countries all duty free and have preferential duty in the EU. The company has always responded quickly to changing market trends and satisfying growing product demand to win back the markets. With the recognition for quality production by its customers, Asiabike has proved to Europe that its products are the highest standards. This in turn, has led the company to focus on new regions especially the Scandinavian countries and India.

Asiabike, an industry favourite in the EU, has been recognised for its year-on-year growth in export revenue to Sri Lanka. The company has always, and will always represent itself to the world as a 100 % Sri Lankan company.

This inspiration has brought Sri Lanka to the top five countries exporting to the EU, and in which this organization has contributed for the bulk of the total volume.

The organisation produces bicycles for customers with product licence for Dunlop, Batman, Spiderman, Donney to name a few. These bicycles are under royalty licence from large corporations such as Marvel Comics, Walt Disney, DC comics etc.

Furthermore, the company has made this small island proud by winning a government tender in Netherlands, to produce bicycles for the Dutch Railways. Asiabike has also manufactured bicycles for the winter Olympics that was held in Vancouver, Canada in 2011. As a reward for these efforts, Asiabike has been recognized by the exporting community and the National Chamber of Exporters (NCE).
