Rathnayake CC boys’ overall Champions

Ratnapura A Rathnayake Central College emerged overall boys champions
in the 82nd Sri John Tarbet Senior Schools Athletic Meet when they
collected 128 points to beat Joseph Vaz College, Wennappuwa who became
runners up by securing 96 points at the Mahinda Rajapakse International
Sports Complex, Diyagama yesterday.
The overall senior girls championship was won by Sumana Balika MV who
secured 174 points ahead of A Ratnayayake Central College who emerged
runner-ups with 173 points. Joseph Vaz won the outstation boys
championship with 99 points while Thakshila Central College , Horana
were awarded the runners up trophy when the collected 53 points.
A Ratnayake CC lasses also bagged the outstation girls’ championship
with 173 points while Kuliyapitiya CC came behind with 77 points on the
board.
W K M Udayakumara of Prince College, Ratnapura who finished boys
100metres in 14.45 seconds emerged the Best Boys’ Athlete in the event.
S R J Pabasara Senanayake of St Josephs’ College, Kegalle grabbed the
Best Girl Athlete award when she clocked 12.32 seconds in the girls 100
metres finals.
The 82 episode of the event concluded in three days with 17 new meet
records. The energetic athletes shattered four records on the first day
and on the second day saw nine new meet records being set up. The final
day concluded with four new meet records registered in the book.
R Wickckramarante of Maristella College set up a new meet record in
boys’ under 16 tripple jump when he leapt a distance of 13.67 metres.
The other record of the final day came from W M R Udaya Kumara of Prince
College, Ratnapura in the under 18 boys’ 110 metres hurdles when he
finished the event in 14.45 seconds. K A P Jayawardena who represented
Ananda National School, Chilaw threw his discus a distance of 45.90
metres to enter his name in the new meet record list on the same day.
The only record on the final day in the girls’ category came from H M M
K Senaviratne of Sri Rahula National School, Katugastota where she
proved her excellence in under 20 girls’ 1500 metres by finishing the
event in 4.45: 77 seconds.
