Wayamba Group to open first Export Village

Maize production increases by around 30 mt:

For the first time an export village is to be set up in Galenbidunuwewa in Anuradhapura by the private company on October 6. This initiative is being taken by the Wayamba Group which has already made history by becoming the first company to export maize.

Sampath to launch Rs 1.5 b five year debenture

Sampath Bank is launching a five year debenture worth of rupees 1.5 billion with an option to increase it by a further rupees one billion if the issue is oversubscribed. The issue will be opened on October 4, 2012.

Inflation decelerates further in September 2012

Inflation, as measured by the Colombo Consumers’ Price Index (CCPI)(2006/07=100) computed by the Department of Census and Statistics, declined to 9.1 percent in September 2012 on a year-on-year (YoY) basis from 9.5 percent in the previous month, mainly due to the price decreases in the food category.

SriLankan holds Highflyers awards: SriLankan Airlines held its maiden Highflyers awards ceremony at the Waters Edge last Friday. Employees of the national carrier who had rendered exemplary services of 25 and 30 years and those who excelled in different roles such as sports
