Man assaulted to death with stone

A 25-year-old man died on Saturday after he was assaulted with a stone while in bed at a house in Camilaswatte, Lokuwagoda, Meerigama. Attanagalla magistrate commenced the magisterial inspection into the death of Dinesh Priyantha. Meerigama Police arrested the suspect on the same day.

Infant's body in bucket

Katunayake Police found a body of a female infant dumped in a bucket in a toilet at a private company in Andiambalama on Saturday following tip-off. The body was sent to the Negombo hospital morgue. Katunayake Police are investigating to find the woman who delivered the infant.

Mechanic electrocuted

A mechanic of a private electricity company died of electrocution when he touched an electric wire on a post during repairs to the power supply line in Medawachchiya on Saturday morning. P M Priyanandana (26) of Mahapolwatte, Aharapola died in the mishap. Medawachchiya Police are investigating.

Treasure hunter arrested

Habarana Police arrested seven suspects while digging a land in Thirimana Ulpotha forest reserve in search of artefacts. They were remanded until October 15 when produced before the Hinguraggoda magistrate court.

Friend clubbed to death

A 45-year-old man was clubbed to death by another with whom the victim was consuming liquor on Friday at a construction site of a house in Depanama, Pannipitiya. M M Nimal Priyantha of Pitigala died in the incident. Maharagama Police arrested the suspect and produced him in Gangodawila magistrate court where the two suspects were remanded until October 10. Further investigations continue.

Heroin dealer arrested

A suspect arrested with 500 grammes of heroin with a street value of more than Rs 4 million was remanded until October 10 by Mount Lavinia magistrate.

The Police Narcotics Bureau arrested the suspect on Friday while he was getting into a car with the stock of heroin opposite a hotel in Wellawatte.

Forest field officer nabbed

Mannar Police yesterday arrested a forest ranger in connection with the death of a driver in Mannar forest office on Friday. The Police said that the suspect ranger had allegedly stabbed the driver after a argument.

The 51-year-old A Gunadasa of Thisa Wewa, Anuradhpura died in the incident. The suspect, a resident of Nilwella, Dikwella was produced in Mannar magistrate's court yesterday.

Women hacked to death

Two women died on Friday and Saturday after they were slashed to death by their husbands in Pottuvil and Dodamgoda. H Kalyania Kusumsiri, 55 died when she was slashed with a machete by her husband while sleeping at their home in Gatagahahena, Neginna on Friday. Dodamgoda Police arrested the suspect and produced him in Matugama magistrates court yesterday.

The other woman was killed in Komari 1 area in Pottuvil when her husband assaulted her on head with a sharp object. K Adisayamani, 43 died in the incident. Pottuvil Police have commenced a search operation to arrest the suspect who fled the area after the crime.
