Anuradhapura Police arrest long-time ransom taker

The Anurahapura Police on Saturday tipped off by North Central Provincial Council Minister H B Semasinghe, arrested a suspect who had been demanding a ransom from long-distance private buses that travel via Anuradhapura.

The NCP Health, Indigenous Medicine, Social Welfare, Child Care and Probation, Women’s Affairs and Transport Minister H B Semasinghe tipped off the Police on the illegal act after he himself witnessed some individuals taking ransom from buses.

It was revealed that these ransom takers have been demanding Rs 100 to 200 since a long time and the conductors had no option but to give in.
