Matara-Kataragama railway line:

First phase to Beliatta

The first phase of construction work of the Matara-Kataragama railway line will be extended to Beliatta, covering a distance of 27 kilometres.

A sum of Rs 1004.3 million has been spent for the construction between the years 2006 and 2010 according to Railway engineers.

Under the second phase the railway line will be built to Hambantota, a distance of 48 kilometres. Under phase three, it will be extended from Hambantota to Kataragama, a distance of 40 kilometres.
