WP/HO/Bope Rajasinghe Secondary School Upgraded
Bope village is a beautiful, agricultural as well as a remote area in
the District of Colombo with a low economic level and lot of challenges.
This school was opened as a small school in 1869 to provide education to
the children of the area. This school is the only such institution for
children of Udagama Angampitiya, Dambora, Pahala Bope, Ihala Bope,
Halpewatta, Ayarwatta, Uggalla, Weragala, Miriyagalla, Mahingala,
Arakawila, Kandinapitiya, Udagama Kanda, Boralu Tenna, Gurulaana,
Labugama, Siyambalawala, Thummodara and Wewila, etc., villages.

After 142 years of opening of this school, attention was made to make
this a fully complete secondary school under the establishment of 1000
secondary schools project of the Mahinda Chintana Forward Vision
Rejuvenating Programme is the belief that all the facilities enjoyed by
the urban children should also be provided to rural children without any
differences with this in mind WP/HO/Bope Rajasinghe Maha Vidyalaya along
with the children of WP/HO/Dambora Primary School, WP/HO/Udagama Primary
School, WP/HO/Akaraawila Primary School and WP/HO/Kandaanapitiya Primary
School, which are Lamaa Mithuru Primary Schools, have seen massive
development during last few years, inheriting brighter students to the
nation.
Under the guidance of HE President Mahinda Rajapaksa this school was
provided with a 03 storeyed building complex consisting of an
Administrative Unit, Advanced Level, and Ordinary Level laboratories
along with all other educational and sanitary facilities making it a
fully complete school.
The investment for this was around Rs. 40 Million made under the
education for a Knowledge Society Project of the Ministry of Education.
The student strength at present is 648 and has earned a name for
herself as a prestigious educational institution with achievements made
in several spheres including sports, dancing, music, debating, music
band, language competitions, etc., in provincial and other levels in
years 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2012.
Rajasinghe Maha Vidyalaya, will be handed over to the children of the
nation as a fully complete secondary school on 01st of October 2012 by
President Mahinda Rajapakse which was made under the programme to offer
to the nation 5000 feeding primary schools and fully complete secondary
schools by the Ministry of Education under the guidance of Minister of
Education, Bandula Gunawardana. Parallel to this, marking the opening of
the 1000 secondary schools, the 409 Mahindodaya Technical Laboratories
will also be commenced.
The wish of the Ministry of Education and the Western Provincial
Ministry of Education is that the children of Rajasinghe Maha Vidyalaya
of Bope, Padukka will make use of these facilities and become
entrepreneurs, intellectuals, leaders and thinkers of the future.
The concept of Mahindodaya Technical Educational Institutions which
is offered to all the children of the country like the children of Bope,
will no doubt offer an active contribution to make Sri Lanka, the
Miracle of Asia, a reality.
