President's Trophy Rugby kicks off

The coveted Schools Rugby Tournament 2012 for the President's Trophy will kick of on September 26 and the final will be played on October 13 at Royal College Sports Complex, Colombo and Air Force Grounds, Ratmalana. The tournament is organized by Sri Lanka Schools Rugby Football Association (SLSRFA).

Starting at 1995, it has come a long way making good opportunities for young rugby players.

The highly acclaimed championship was expanded in 2007 to include a "Premier Trophy". In 2008, the SLSRFA further expanded the tournament to include the "Chairman's Trophy".

The tournament will be powered by Nestle Lanka PLC's popular energy brand "Milo", who has played a vital role in this endeavor as the principal sponsor.

The partnership between Milo and SLSRFA goes back to 20 years and during this period, the lives and sporting careers of thousands of school sportsman have positively impacted. This tournament will consist of three categories namely President's Trophy, Premier Trophy and Chairman's Trophy.

A total of 14 schools will be participating for the tournament this time. Isipatana, St.Anthony's Kandy, Dharmaraja Kandy, Wesley, Kingswood Kandy, Trinity Kandy, Mahanama, C.W.W. Kannangara Maha Vidyalaya, Prince of Wales Moratuwa, Nalanda, Ananda, St.Sylvester's Kandy, St.Benedict's, Lalith Athulathmudali, Maliyadeva Kurunegala, St.Anne's Kurunegala, St.John's, S.Thomas' Matale, Royal Panadura and Piliyandala Central will take part in the tournament this time.

So far, (1995) St.Peter's, (1996) Isipatana, (1997) Isipatana, (1998) Thurstan, (1999) Isipatana, (2000) Kingswood, (2001) Isipatana, (2002) Royal, (2003) Kingswood, (2004) Kingswood, (2005) Kingswood, (2006) St.Peter's, (2007) St.Peter's, (2008) St.Peter's, (2009) S.Thomas' (2010) Royal/St.Peter's, (2011) Trinity.
