'Social workers should keep abreast of rapid changes'

"Social workers must be mindful of the rapid social changes taking
place in the country and abroad if they are to discharge their services
properly, said Social Services Minister Felix Perera.
He was participating at the National Institute for Social Development
(NISD) Diploma Certificate Awards Ceremony of the Diploma in Social Work
and the Diploma in Counseling at the BMICH recently.
The minister said the government's main intention is to uplift the
lives of people, irrespective of age, race, religion by promoting social
development in keeping with the Mahinda Chinthanaya programme.
The Social Services Ministry through the National Institute of Social
Development (NISD) is producing the human resources required for human
development to achieve this goal.
"We expect to enhance human resources for social development through
the preparation of competent manpower in social work at all levels by
generating and disseminating new knowledge and technologies for social
work practice. Providing specialized services for social welfare and
social development will be achieved through these training courses," he
said. Accordingly, 280 people who successfully completed the Diploma in
Social Work and the Diploma in CounseLing courses were awarded
certificates. |
