Jaffna continue dream run

Reach Murali Harmony Cup final:

Jaffna Combined Schools continued their T20 dominance with a comprehensive victory of 91 runs against Maliyadeva College, Kurunegala in the second semi-final of the Murali Harmony Cup 2012 played at Kilinochchi Central Grounds on Tuesday. They will play in the final against St Peter's College, Colombo at IODR Oval in Oddusuddan.

Peterites entered the final with a five wicket win over Anuradhapura Central. The former Sri Lankan paceman Ravindra Pushpakumara coached Jaffna lads who earlier shocked Trinity College on the opening day and were undefeated through out the tournament. They further overcame Debarawewa Schools, Vavuniya Mannar Combined teams. Their dream to enter the final was fulfilled by an all round performance against Maliyadeva.

The right hand opener and wicket keeper Gaster Reshan Tuder made 85 in 55 balls inclusive of 13 fours and one six which helped Jaffna Combine to pile up 179 for 7 after electing to bat first.Edward Edin another powerful northern player contributed with an entertaining 37. In reply Maliyadeva were never able to challenge the Jaffna total as fast bowler JP Erick took 3 for 11 and spinner B. Clington claimed 2 for 9. Maliyadeva were bowled out for 88 in 18.5 overs .

An unbeaten knock of 56 by Dushan Hemantha and a five wicket haul for 27 by Chemila Obeysekara of St Peters’ College, Colombo secured their birth in the final when they beat Anuradhapura Central College by five wickets at Kilinochchi Central Grounds in the first semi final of the Murali Harmony Cup continued yesterday. Anuradhapura Central having put into bat first were seen struggling against disciplined bowling from the opening medium pacer Chemila and also good bowling by Julien de Zilva who took 3 for 19. They were restricted for a modest 125 for 9. Chasing the target Peterites lost three wickets early in their innings but recovered well and reached the target in 15.4 overs with only losing 5 wickets.

Peterite Jeson Bultjuns who left the filed after a nasty head injury while taking a brilliant catch recovered later and scored 27.They will now meet the winner of the second semi final between Maliyadewa , College Kurunegala and Jaffna Combined Schools today.

Jaffna Combined v Maliyadeva College

Jaffna Combined: 179 for 7 in 20 overs (GR Tuder 85, Edwerd Edin 37, Keshan Wijeratne 3 for 31, Sarinda Dassanayake 2 for 17)

Maliyadeva College: 88 all out in 18.5 overs (Charith Rathnayake 21, Tharaka Rajaguru 15, JP Erick 3 for 11, B Clington 2 for 9).

St Peter’s College v Anuradhapura Central

Anuradhapura Central: 124 for 9 in 20 overs (Suresh Nivanthaka 25 not out, Dilshan Chamika 24, Chemila Obeysekera 5 for 27, Julian de Zilva 3 for 19)

St Peter’s College: 128 for 5 in 15.3 overs (Dushan Hemantha 56 not out, Jeson Bultjuns 27, Kasun Weeranga 2 for 22).
