Drunk driver claims two lives

A woman and her daughter died when they were knocked down by a private bus at the Ja-Ela town on Monday. A 17-year-old girl died on the spot and her mother (42) died after admitted to the Ragama hospital. Victims were identified as Ganegodage Krishani (42) and Imasha Meepe (17). The driver of the bus was arrested by the Ja-Ela Police. Investigations have revealed that he was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident.

The Police Media Spokesman said that they planned to carry out special operations from September 11 to arrest bus drivers who drive their vehicles under the influence of alcohol.

He said that they face difficulties when continuing these operations during day time but will continue to arrest the drivers who are driving under influence of alcohol.
