TID arrests suspect with weapons

Acting on information received, the Terrorist Investigations Department officers obtained a search warrant and raided a home in Watareka and arrested a 52-year-old suspect with weapons, ammunitions and cash in Japanese Yen and SL rupees.

Police recovered three automatic pistols, 201 bullets of 9mm, 53 bullets of 38mm, 8 bullets of T 56, 17 of 22mm and another 17 bullets of an unidentified category, Japanese Yen 10,000 and Rs 200,000 at his home. The TID continue investigations.

Wanted suspect arrested

Western Province South special operations unit of Mirihana arrested a suspect wanted in connection with two serious crimes including robbing Rs 311,200 at gun point at a filling station and in Moratuwa.

Police said that the suspect robbed cash at gun point from the co- operative filling station in Moratuwa on July 24 and also robbed cash from a hotel owner at gun point in the same area on November 5.

A motorcycle used in the crimes was also seized . Police are investigating to find the stolen cash and the weapon he used. The suspect has been remanded until September 13 by the Moratuwa magistrate.

Body found inside car

the Bambalapitiya Police found a body of a man inside a car on a road in Havelock Town Wednesday. Investigations revealed that 58-year-old N Gamini Jayasinghe of Werahera who was a driver of a Korean Company in Colombo had not returned to work after he set out with his company head in the car to drop him.

The body was sent to Colombo National Hospital for post mortem. Bambalapitiya Police are investigating.

Police nab suspects

Two suspects who prepared forged documents and sold a rented car to a customer in Piliyandala were arrested by Mount Lavinia Crime Investigations Branch Wednesday. The Police are investigating.

Injured girl dies

An eight year girl who was seriously injured when a TV stand fell on her, succumbed to her injuries at Bibila hospital on Wednesday.

The girl faced the mishap while she was watching the TV lying on the floor.

The girl had been tapping TV stand with her legs which caused it to lose balance and fell on her.

N Adaya of Godigamuwa, Kotabowa died in the incident. Medagama Police are investigating.

Suspect remanded

A suspect arrested in connection with the death of a man due to stab injuries in Puttalam has been remanded until September 25 by Puttalam magistrate.

Police reported that the suspect allegedly stabbed 16-year-old M F Althan Ahamad during an argument who died later in the hospital.

Another suspect has been remanded until September 26 by Galle magistrate in connection with the death of a man who had been stabbed with a screw driver in Wakwella junction on September 9.

The victim succumbed at Karapitiya hospital. Poddala Police are investigating.
