Colombo Additional District Court Judge suspended

The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) yesterday suspended the services of Colombo Additional District Court Judge Aravinda Perera with effect from yesterday following an inquiry into an allegation of indecent behaviour and corruption. The JSC unanimously took the decision after a thorough investigation on several complaints lodged by certain groups and individuals, Judicial Service Commission Secretary Manjula Thilakarathna said.


Mullaitivu tops Jana Sevana repayment targets

The Mullaitivu district secured the highest percentage of reimbursement targets of Jana Sevana housing loans for August, said Construction Engineering Services, National Housing Development Authority Director Pathma Udaya Shantha.

The Mullaitivu district secured first place, achieving 435 percent of the reimbursement targets, he said.

He also said the Kilinochchi district secured second place achieving 277 percent of the reimbursement target and Colombo North was in third place with 115 percent.

"Jana Sevana housing loan beneficiaries are keen on the reimbursement process as it is progressing successfully, under the guidance of Construction Engineering Services, Housing and Common Amenities Minister Wimal Weeravansa.

"The authority has been able to provide more loans for homeless people," Shantha said.


Omanthai to Jaffna road: drivers should act with caution

The Police requests motorists entering the Northern Province to drive with caution as the stretch of road from Omanthai to Jaffna is being reconstructed.

Drivers using the A9 road which is the gateway to the Northern Province have been requested to abide by the following instructions. Police request motorists drive at moderate speeds and with concern about the safety of passengers, pedestrians, road construction workers and properties. The Northern Province Senior DIG has issued these instructions to the drivers visiting the Northern Province. Severe action will be taken against those driving under the influence of liquor or suffering from poor health as it can affect their driving.
