Deyata Sevana third phase commences

The third phase of the tree planting in the Deyata Sevana
Biodiversity Park established on the roadside of Japan Friendship Road
near the Parliamentary Complex commenced on Monday.

The Indian Oil Company (IOC) funded Rs 1 million for the project. It
was established under the National Tree Planting Campaign on November 15
last year with the patronage of President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
The third phase of the park commenced Monday with the participation
of Environment Ministry Secretary B M U D Basnayake and IOC Chairman
Thilak Kollure.
The park also consists of a butterfly garden and bamboo cultivation.
The IOC and the Environment Ministry jointly carry out the work of the
third phase of the park.
Participating in the inaugural ceremony IOC Managing Director Subodha
Dakwale commended the enthusiasm and commitment of Environment Minister
Anura Priyadarshana Yapa towards sustainable development.
He observed this kind of projects would help protect biodiversity and
combat global warming. |
