Over 230,000 apply for compensation

About 232,000 applications have been received by the Agrarian Services Department for compensation for crops damage due to the existing drought.

Wildlife and Agrarian Services Minister S.M. Chandrasena said that farmers from 13 districts including Kurunegala, Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa and Ampara have asked for compensation for ruined crops.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa has instructed Minister Chandrasena to expedite payments of compensation.

Agrarian Services Ministry officials are categorizing applications to pay compensation.
