ACUET wants code of ethics for teachers
The All Ceylon Union of English Teachers(ACUET) has made
representations to the National Committee for formulating a new
Education Act for General Education on the immediate need for a Code of
Ethics for Teachers, states ACUET Secretary General M A Stanley Perera,
in a release.
The release adds: The Union's Secretary General M A Stanley Perera
welcomes the final findings of the above Committee on Code of Ethics for
teachers on the following basis:
“The Code of Ethics for Teachers should be developed as an outcome of
a collaborative effort of teachers, teacher educators, educationists,
teacher unions and professional organisation representatives.
It should inspire professional excellence and guide teachers in their
conduct. It is not intended to be used as a basis for discipline by
authorities.
“The Union has urged Higher Education Minister S B Dissanayake to
formulate a code of ethics for teachers with immediate effect.”
A copy of this proposal has been forwarded to the Secretary, Ministry
of Education. |
