Man shot dead

A man was shot dead by a group of unidentified gunmen at a hotel in Ratmalgoda, Ingiriya on Monday. W A Jagath Kumara, 35, of Koswatte Road, Horana died in the incident. Ingiriya Police have commenced a search operation to arrest the suspects. A 21- year- old man drowned while bathing at Polhengoda beach in Matara on Monday.

The victim was identified as D P Suraweera of Wewahanduwa , Matara. Meanwhile, Kaththankudi Police are investigating the death of a 37- year - old man whose body washed ashore at Kalladi beach near the Kalladi Army Camp. Police identified the victim as W Wimalasiri of Kalawanchikudi.


Human skeleton found

A human skeleton believed to be of a mason reported missing since August 18 was found in a jungle at Masmulla, Kamburupitiya on Monday by Kamburupitiya Police.

Police led investigations after a complaint was lodged by the deceased's wife that her husband, W H N Pradeep Kumara who was employed at a construction site in Kataragama, had phoned her on August 18 and told her that he was coming home.

She said he never came home.

Kamburupitiya Police are investigating.


Suspect in assault case remanded

A suspect arrested in connection with an assault incident where a man died, was remanded until September 14 by the Moratuwa magistrate. Police said the suspect was arrested when Suranjith Perera,45, of Moratumulla succumbed at the Colombo National Hospital while receiving treatment after he was assaulted on November 6 at Ruskin Fernado Mawatha.


Cash, gold sovereigns stolen

The Kandy Division Intelligence Unit on Saturday arrested a suspect wanted in connection with an incident where Rs 170,000 and 102 gold sovereigns were stolen at gun point at a house in Nuwara Eliya on March 31 this year. The police also took into custody a pistol and five bullets used by the suspect.

Pussellawa Police are investigating.


Motorcycle thieves arrested

Four suspects arrested for allegedly stealing three motorcycles were remanded until September 18.

Chilaw police officers at Arachchikattuwa checkpoint arrested one suspect on Sunday.

Three other suspects were arrested following this. The stolen goods were also recovered.


Public help sought to find escaped child detainee

Anuradhapura Police seek public assistance to find a child detainee who escaped from Avanthi Devi Girls Home in Anuradhapura on Saturday around 5am. The 14 - year - old girl about five feet in height was attired in a green blouse and a skirt.

She had long hair and a birth mark near her left eye.


Fire in Wattegama

A fire erupted in a stationery shop in Wattegama was doused by the Police and the residents on Sunday. The fire broke out at around 11pm and was later extinguished.

The property in the shop were destroyed.

Wattegama Police are investigating.


Burglars nabbed

Two suspects wanted in connection with several burglaries in Gampaha were arrested by Peliyagoda Police on Friday.

The Police arrested the first suspect in Peliyagoda and information from him, led to the arrest of the second suspect with stolen property (nine bicycles, four mobile phones and a VCD player) in his possession.

They were remanded until September 20 by the Mahara magistrate.


STF personnel, trishaw driver arrested

Borella Police arrested two STF constables and a three wheeler driver for allegedly threatening residents at T 20 Gardens by forcibly entering their house.

The Police arrested them after information forwarded to 119.

They were produced before the Aluthkade magistrate.
