Gratiaen Evening
The Gratiaen Trust and The International Center for Ethnic Studies
(ICES)will present a ‘Gratiaen Evening’ with Ernest Macintyre on
September 14 at 6.30 pm at the ICES Auditorium, 2, Kynsey Terrace,
Colombo 8.
Entitled “Between cultures, Times and Spaces: Ernest Macintyre’s
Theatre as Dialogue,” Macintyre will be in conversation with a moderator
and the audience on his work, the role of theatre in facilitatinf
dialogue between diverse communities and theatre craft.
Now domiciled in Australia, Ernest Macintyre is one of Sri Lanka’s
leading English playrights and theatre directors. His major plays
include, Let’s Give Them Curry, The Education of Miss Asia(which was on
the GCE Advanced Level Syllabys), Rasanayagam’s Last Riot and He Still
Comes From Jaffna.
The Gratiaen Trust, which has conducted workshops on creative writing
and sponsored translations projects in addition to offering the annual
Gratiaen Prize and the HAI Goonetileke Prize for Translation, has
decided to organise a series of literary events which will be held in
Colombo and other cities. This Gratiaen Evening’ with Ernest Macintyre,
co-sponsored by the ICES, will be the first of many such evenings.
