Enjoining order against UNP Lawyers' Association vacated

Colombo District Judge Dhammika Ganepola yesterday vacated the enjoining order earlier issued on the UNP controlled National Lawyers' Association (Attorneys at Law) (NLA).

In this case the plaintiff Attorney at Law Mahen Gunasekera filed action against the new appointments to the NLA, stating that the appointments of Attorney at Law Tilak Marapona in addition to several Attorneys at Law were illegal as such appointments had been made without holding the annual general meeting.

The plaintiff requested the court to issue an order preventing the new appointees functioning in the NLA. The respondents filing a counter objection submitted that the plaintiff is not a member of the UNP. The constitution he had filed is not the constitution of the UNP and prayed that the enjoining order be vacated and to dismiss the plaint.
