‘Dream Weaver’ at barefoot gallery
Amalshan GUNERATHNE
A latest collection of fired enamel and paintings by Layla
Gonaduwa,’Dream Weaver’will be show cased at the barefoot gallery
no.704, Galle road, Colombo 3 until September 16.The exhibition is open
for public from 10 am to 7 pm on weekdays and 11 am to 5 pm on Sundays.
According to Gonaduwa The idea for her latest exhibition manifested
itself when she was working in Hambantota where she met locals whose
hearts were blooming with hopes of joy.The grand development schemes
have planted seeds of hope about great things to come. “When I went to
Hambantota, people were so happy, that they got something great coming
up.
They have got everything they wanted, they were very hopeful of their
future. Hope is a powerful thing, it is funny that hope might not be a
tangible thing, but the idea of it makes you feel happy and that is what
trickled down to ‘Dreamweaver.’ Some of her works are abstract,
whimsical and are refreshingly different. However according to her,
there is more to those creations than what meets the eye.
Speaking of the philosophy that incorporates her latest collection,
she articulates, “I like to think of ‘dreams’ as a seed that consciously
or unconsciously takes hold and weaves its roots in a web, guiding our
actions to its eventuality. That minute chance of it being reality keeps
me buyout and expectant in my darkest hours. It gives me hope. Dreams
can be woven in to proportion.”
The exhibition portrays her work under five themes in ‘Dream
Catcher,’ ‘Dreamling,’ ‘Dream-seed,’ ‘Dream weaver’ and ‘Emanate.’
