Sajeewa Salgado of Thurstan College (All-Island) and Kavindu Ashan Perera of Royal College, Panadura (Outstation) will be crowned Most Popular Schoolboy Cricketers of the Year at the 34th Observer-Mobitel Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year mega awards ceremony to be held at the Galadari Hotel Grand Ballroom tomorrow.

Thangaraja wins 125th Sri Lanka Amateur Golf Championship

Reigning champion Nadaraja Thangaraja (Raja) retained Sri Lanka Amateur Golf crown for the second consecutive year by beating Bangladesh golfer Mohamed Dulal in the 125th Sri Lanka Amateur Golf Championship finals concluded at the Royal Colombo Golf Club (RCGC) yesterday evening. India’s Gursimar Badwal walked away with the ladies Amateur Championship shield beating local golfer Jacky Dias in the final.

India defeat Sri Lanka 5-0

Defending champions India defeated hosts, Sri Lanka by 5-0 in the fifth game of the SAFF Women’s Football Championships yesterday at CR and FC. Suprava Samal gave her team the lead in the 17 minute while six minutes later Salam Rinaroy Devi made it 2-0 with a powerful shot outside the box.

Jaffna Combined Schools defeated Trinity College, Kandy yesterday in one of the opening matches of Murali Harmony Cup 2012. Jaffna youths in an action packed Twenty20 stunned favourites Trinity College which was the highlight of the opening day where 10 matches were played in Jaffna, Kilinochchi, Mankulam, Oddusuddan and Vavuniya.
