Gurukula cricketers going great guns in under 17 tournament

Gurukula Vidyalaya, Kelaniya who are currently dominating the Cricket Scene in Gampaha District has done well in the just concluded Under 17 division one cricket tournament first round conducted by Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association.

Initially they played nine matches which included Tissa Central, Wickramasheela, De Mazenod, St Mary's Chilaw, Sandalankawa Central, Mahanama, Lumbini, St Anthony's, Wattala and St Xavier's, Marawila.

Two of their batsmen Hashan Dumindu and Roshan Anuruddha excelled with the bat while Anuruddha collected seventeen scalps with 4 for 25 against De Mazenod.

Out of the nine games Hashan Dumindu who is a right hand bat played in seven matches due to an injury and he collected 396 runs with an average of 56.57 and scored 130 against De Mazenod, 87 versus Tissa Central, 63 against Wickramasheela and 47 versus Sandalankawa Central.

He toured India with the Sri Lanka Schools under 17 team this year and scored 47, 08 and 68 not out in one day games. Also played for the Prima Championship and won the Best Player award in the inter district tournament 2010 and played for the under 17 Provincial team. Representing his Alma-Mater in the under 19 team last season he scored 957 runs.

Roshan Anuruddha who is a right hand bat and a right arm medium pace bowler scored 312 runs in eight matches and could not get the opportunity to bat against St Xavier's. He averaged 52.0. His scores were 78 against Tissa Central, 75 versus St Mary's, 54 not out against Wickramasheela and 43 versus De Mazenod.

He made two tours representing Sri Lanka Schools with the under 17 to India and under 15 tour of Malaysia in 2010. As the deputy Skipper, where he was awarded the Man of the Series. He represented in the under 15 Prima tournament as the captain of the Basnahira North Outer in the year 2010 and won the Best Player award for the inter Provincial (Prima Tournament) 2010. This year he has selected as the Best Player in the Coca Cola Pathway programme. He is a member of the under 17 Provincial team in the year 2011.
