'People will not be misled by low UNP tactics'

"The UNP is now shedding crocodile tears over the 'Z' score system and other minor issues to gain political mileage, but the people of the Ratnapura District will not be misled by these low political tactics" said former Irrigation Minister Jayatissa Ranaweera. He was addressing a large gathering at Gulilipitiya on July 29.

Ranaweera said that the people of the district who enjoy benefits of development activities launched by the government on the initiative of President Mahinda Rajapaksa in the Ratnapura district have utmost confidence in the government and they will always be with the present government.

"The President eradicated LTTE terrorism and ushered in lasting peace in the country which people from all walks of life now enjoy. Development programmes have been launched in all parts of the country, and all people have been benefited by these programmes.

"The Ratnapura District is now passing through a period of transition and a development renaissance is occurring in the entire district.

"As such, there is nothing remaining for the UNP to do in the Ratnapura District." Ranaweera said.
