in Colombo to mark the 200th anniversary celebrations of the Ceylon
Bible Society (CBS).
Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith |
Delivering a special message, Archbishop of Colombo Malcolm Cardinal
Ranjith said Bible Societies have become internationally recognized
instruments for diffusion of the Bible and its spiritual riches
worldwide.
He congratulated CBS for doing this work with enthusiasm during the
past 200 years, producing not only the vernacular versions of the Sacred
Scriptures but also a variety of Scripture-based publications and
products for the use of the local Christian community.
The Archbishop made special mention of the Ecumenical Bible, a
translation in Sinhala of the Holy Bible approved by the Catholic
Bishops’ Conference and National Christian Council of Sri Lanka.
The CBS Patron Anglican Bishop of Colombo Rt Rev Dhiloraj Canagasabey
recited the Opening Prayer while the welcome address was delivered by
Organising Committee chairperson Vasanthi Rajaratnam. CBS General
Secretary Lakshani Fernando also spoke.
The occasion was lit up by the choral renditions presented by the
choirs of the Ceylon School for the Deaf and Blind, Ratmalana, Trinity
College, Kandy, Combined Catholic Schools and the Merry-Ann Singers.
