New regulations for teachers

The Education Ministry will issue new regulations from the third
school term of this year to school principals and teachers compelling
them to be in schools during school hours.
This would be a compulsory official requirement from the start of the
third school term in September. The Education Ministry Secretary
Gotabhaya Jayaratne has arranged to issue a new circular to this effect,
as it has been found during school inspections that many school
principals and teachers had gone out of the schools during school hours
neglecting their teaching duties.
“They state that they go out for extra curricular activities, yet it
is a great time-loss for students since they are unable to cover up
their study syllabuses during the prescribed time schedules.
“However, if it is very essential for teachers to go out they would
be required to get prior authentication from their respective school
heads” Zonal Education Director W.M. Balasooriya said.
“Under these circumstances measures will be taken to curtail school
teachers and school principals going out of schools during school hours
from the next school term of this year” Balasooriya said in an interview
with the Daily News. |
