‘Strong economy with quality education President’s vision’

Bequeathing a country with a strong economy to the future generation by providing a quality education based on technical knowledge on a par with the highest international standards to the present day students is the prime objective of President Mahinda Rajapaksa, Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa said.

Minister Rajapaksa said so participating in the national ceremony marking the recreation of the 5,000 primary and 1,000 secondary schools programme held at the Galkiriyagama primary school on August 3.

Minister Rajapaksa said territorial integrity, peace and law and order should be stabilized to create a sovereign and independent state.

“When people anguished by a 30 year war handed over power to President Mahinda Rajapaksa, administration of the North and East, which included eight districts, had been unofficially handed over to the eelamists under the CFA signed by Ranil and Prabhakaran.

Peace had been shattered and the law of the jungle prevailed in many parts of the country.

“President Rajapaksa in his capacity as the Commander-in-Chief provided proper leadership and guidance to the security forces and liberated the country with their dedicated efforts and sacrifice.

“Today Sri Lanka is a country enjoying peace, law and order thanks to President Rajapaksa.

“The country has been made self-sufficient in its staple diet. This was achieved by providing all facilities and incentives to local farmers including subsidized fertilizer.

Minister Rajapaksa said the government had now launched a programme to recreate and develop 5,000 primary and 1,000 secondary schools with funding from the Economic Development Ministry to ensure a quality education to the country's child population. Under the programme launched in the Anuradhapura district 112 schools would be developed by providing a minimum of Rs 500,000 to each school.

Education Minister Bandula Gunawardena said President Mahinda Rajapaksa has started a programme to end the country's dependence on others, transform it into a fully sovereign, independent and economically strong country and restore its historical pride.

Ministers Nimal Siripala de Silva and S M Chandrasena, Deputy Ministers W B Ekanayake and Duminda Dissanayake and several other Parliamentarians and Local Councillors were also present on the occasion.
