Peaceful atmosphere makes SL ideal confab venue

The peaceful atmosphere in Sri Lanka following the end to terrorism
made the organisers of the sixth Asia Pacific Military Nursing Exchange
symposium on ‘Infection Control and Traumatic Injury Management’ select
Sri Lanka as its venue for the confab, a Health Ministry spokesman said.
According to the spokesman, this is the first time in the history of
the programme a South Asian country was picked as the venue.
"The organisers selected Sri Lanka as the venue after considering the
peaceful and safe atmosphere in the country after eradicating
terrorism," he said.
Addressing the opening ceremony, Major General Kimberly Sinrschalchy
of the US Air Force said she understood the real meaning of the 'Pearl
of the Indian ocean' only after visiting Sri Lanka and seeing for
herself the island.
"Sri Lanka was once called Serendib and the meaning of this name is
'fortunate country ' which is an apt description. I am happy about
selecting Sri Lanka as the South Asian venue for the symposium," she
said.
The six day symposium organised with the collaboration of the SLAF
will continue at the Taj Samudra Hotel until August 11 with the
participation of over 600 military doctors and nurses from 22 countries. |
