Over 277,000 sit ALs at 2,093 centres

The Advanced Level examination commenced at 2,093 centres countrywide yesterday, Examinations Commissioner Jagath Pushpakumara said. He said the exam was held smoothly with no complaints.

A total of 277,452 candidates are sitting the Advanced Level examination this year. Of this, 220,535 are school candidates sitting the exam under the new syllabus, while 15,239 private candidates are also sitting the exam under the new syllabus.

Meanwhile, 41,323 private candidates are sitting this year’s examination under the old syllabus including 355 candidates who had sat for the A-L in 2011, Pushpakumara said.

The A-L examination under the new syllabus will be held at 1,746 centres while the examination under the old syllabus will be held at 347 centres.

The examination is being coordinated through 289 centres, the Examinations Commissioner said.
