Airtel to revolutionize data services

Bharti Airtel Sri Lanka is at the cusp of its next phase of development growth in telecom, which is largely driven by data services.

In an interview with Daily News Business Bharti Airtel Sri Lanka (Pvt) Ltd Director/Chief Financial Officer R. Thyagarajan said that Bharti Airtel Sri Lanka is the fourth largest telecom operator in Sri Lanka followed by Dialog ,Mobitel and Etisalat and its investment in Sri Lanka has crossed $ 310 million as of date ,which is equivalent to 5% of the total Foreign Direct Investments in Sri Lanka. The company has 1000+ base stations on operation and over 90 % population is covered with Airtel network.

Currently, Sri Lanka is experiencing a voice explosion and have seen a bit of data explosion. Airtel is confident that the company will be on the forefront of data explosion in Sri Lankan in years ahead.

In addition, Airtel will infuse additional money to bringing down the diesel consumption across 70 sites operated by the company. Diesel is one of the biggest inputs for any telecom company and Airtel Sri Lanka has taken a decision to bring down the consumption of diesel across the sites and will eventually bring down diesel sites to 20 by the end of this year. Money will be invested to bring in new technology to reduce dependence on non green fuel in these sites, we are confident that we will contribute to the society in terms of lower dependence on diesel and others, Thyagarajan added.
