Four nabbed for burglaries

Four suspects wanted in connection with 19 burglaries were arrested in Negambo and Hemmathagama on Monday. Three of them were arrested at Galkanda junction in Negambo.

They had stolen three wheelers, motorcycles, jewellery and laptop computers in Kandana, Negambo and Kochchikade.

The other suspect had carried out 12 thefts in Horana, Awissawella, Eheliyagoda, Kotadeniyawa, Maharagama, Piliyandala, Boralesgamuwa and Bulathkohupitiya.

Police recovered some of the stolen items. The suspects were produced before courts yesterday.

Negambo and Hemmathagama Police are investigating.


Man shot by trap gun

A man shot by a trap gun died on admission to the Dambulla hospital yesterday.

The victim was walking near a tank in Hiralawa, Galkiriyagama in the early hours yesterday when the incident occurred.

Police identified the diseased as 24-year-old R Mijuwana of Pubbogama.

Galkiriyagama Police are investigating.


Illegal migrants netted

A couple who attempted to illegally migrate to another country from Sallisampalthiv beach in Uppuweli was arrested on Tuesday. Police also seized life jackets and the boat ready to take them to the vessel they had planned to board.

The suspects were produced before the Trincomalee magistrate yesterday.


Arrested with heroin

Horana Police arrested three persons with 100.5 grammes of heroin at Athgala Kanda, Gurugoda on Tuesday.

They were transporting the drug in a three wheeler when they were arrested.

They were produced before the Horana magistrate yesterday.


Waiter stabbed to death

Gampaha Police commenced a search operation to arrest a suspect who allegedly stabbed a man to death at the Gampaha hospital premises.

Police said the suspect, a minor staffer of the Gampaha hospital, had allegedly stabbed a waiter in the canteen.

The victim, 51-year-old L A Nandasena of Dunumala, died on admission to the hospital.

The suspect had fled the area after the incident.
