Retired Major pays price over false complaint

Mahawela Police arrested a retired Army Major who lodged a false complaint at the Police station that a person looted Rs 600,000 threatening him with a pointed knife at his home. Police conducted an investigation into the complaint and found that the suspect had made a false complaint against one of his opponents. He later confessed at the Police station.

The suspect, a resident of Bambalapitiya had come to Homapala in the Mahawela Police division to buy pepper, police said.

The suspect was released on Rs 25,000 cash bail and two sureties on being produced before Paldeniya Circuit Magistrate Rangani Gamage.
