Man arrested for forging President’s signature

A man who attempted to get employment at the State Timber Corporation
by forging President Mahinda Rajapakse’s signature, was arrested in
Nelumdeniya by Police special investigations unit on Tuesday.
The suspect, a 31 year old from Nelumdeniya had forged the
President's signature and the frank on a forged President's official
letter-head and forwarded a letter to the State Timber Corporation
chairman to get employment as a security guard.
A team of the police special investigations unit led by IP J
Dharmakeerthi, raided his home in Nelumdeniya and seized another letter
with the President's forged signature allegedly written to the National
Museums Department ordering it to recruit a person as a watcher in the
said department.
The Police also recovered a forged letter head of Staff Defense
School, Sapugaskanda, a computer, a colour printer, a computer scanner,
a pen drive, a duplicate identity card to the name of L R Nalinda as
issued by Staff Defense School and text of a speech of the President.
The suspect was produced in Kaduwela magistrates court yesterday.
