Timely Police action prevents clash at mosque

Timely action taken by the Police averted some unruly people disturbing Muslims from praying at the Deduruoyagama mosque in the Wellawa Police Division.

When a group of persons who gathered at the Deduruoyagama Thakkiya tried to prevent Muslims from performing their religious rites, the Mosque chairman J.A. Fahim, the Moulavi Thassim and the Jamiyathul Ulama Assistant Secretary reported the matter to Muslim ministers and Parliamentarians who informed the IGP directly.

The IGP ordered the Wayamba Province DIG to prevent any disorderliness in the Thakkiya premises. He has been subsequently thanked by the Parliamentarians for his immediate action. The Muslims in the area now perform their Tharaweeh prayers and other prayers five times, at the mosque.

Parliament Member A.H.M. Azwer stated that at the recent discussions at which the Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa and the Deputy Minister Faizer Musthapa were also present, the IGP assured the Janiyathul Ulama that security will be provided to Muslims to perform their religious rites during this holy month of Ramazan.
